During the ceremony, the Minister of Mines, Industry and Energy, Marcelino Owono Edu, revealed that this project, funded entirely by the Government of Equatorial Guinea, is valued at 292,790 million CFA francs, and that it is in the framework of the Government program in the face of Horizon 2020, in compliance with the recommendations of the second National Economic Conference.

President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo described this event as significant because he said, “it is laying the first stone of what will be a source of energy production for all of Equatorial Guinea“. He also called for reflection on the current reality of our country, which is, as he assured, “a nation that is in continuous progress. We’ve carried out many works, and others that we will continue making the best of the economic potential that our country currently holds, but we need the people to know how to value this action and hence the importance of the change of mentality.”

The Government is committed to making Equatorial Guinea an emerging country by the year 2020, continued the Head of State, “we need to meet the established programs and one of them is energy production. A country cannot carry out a certain progress if it does not have electrical power sources, because they ensure industrial production.

The President invited Equatorial Guinea’s population to fulfill their obligation, because the Government is meeting the Horizon 2020 program and the people comply with their part. “We have to meet our obligations to maintain the infrastructures,” said the Head of State and called on those responsible for the energy sector to establish a good management so that they can recover the investment in record time.

After the blessing by the priest, the President of Equatorial Guinea and the First Lady proceeded to lay the first stone of the hydroelectric plant, to be called Severino Obiang Efong Bengono, the name of the person who was devoted to the study of this project.

The ceremony was enlivened by entertainment groups and representatives of Ukrainian and Equatorial Guinea culture.
