The African Union (AU), which is currently chaired by the Head of State of Equatorial Guinea, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has sent a message of condolence to the Government of Tanzania for the sinking of a ferry that killed dozens of people and left many others injured.
The letter of sorrow signed by the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Jean Ping, said that “the African institution expresses to the people and Government their regret, receiving with great sorrow the news of the tragic accident last Friday, September 9, 2011, in which a large number of people are still unaccounted for.”
Ping, who also conveyed the solidarity of the AU with the families of the deceased, stressed in his message that an accident of this magnitude is terrible and the loss of life, truly lamentable.
The President of the AU Commission prays for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives, as well as a speedy recovery for those injured and concluded by assuring the Tanzanian people that the African Union is mourning with them during this sad period.
