‘Stars Will Win Nations Cup’ –

The Black Stars have been touted as the team to beat at next year’s African Nations Cup slated for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea despite the strong opposition by perennial underachievers Cote d’Ivoire.

January’s biggest continental showpiece will be staged minus seven-time champions Egypt, five-time champions Cameroon, two-time champions Nigeria and one-time champion South Africa, all considered heavyweights on the continent.

But several football fanatics that DAILY GUIDE SPORTS spoke to were confident that the Stars who reached the finals of the last edition held in Angola in 2010 will win the cup convincingly.

Some have even tasked the team to grab the ultimate for the fifth time or face sanctions.

Mustapha Ahmed of Sukura in Accra, a passionate footballer who was the first to speak to this paper, described the absence of the four top football nations as a blessing to the Black Stars.

According to him, the Black Stars cannot fail to deliver for Ghanaians since everybody was hungry for trophies.

‘We came close to winning the trophy in Angola last year and ‘Insha Allahu’ this time around with all the top players such as Michael Essien and Prince Boateng available we will win the Nations Cup.’

Ama Sarpong, a banker also described Ghana’s performance as superb, saying she is in love with Norway born goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey.

Ofori Kissi, another banker, also expressed conviction that Ghana will grab the CAN trophy which has eluded the nation for almost 20 years.

‘I tell you Ghana will be unbeatable at the next competition.’

Nii Amassah Laryea also described the current Black Stars as an excellent team, commending Coach ‘Plavi’ for his brilliant techniques.

Ghana has been seeded alongside Cote d’Ivoire in next year’s Africa’s most prestigious competition.
