Honka has received an invitation letter from the Gambia Football Association inviting Demba Savage for Gambia’s friendly game with Nations cup joint host Equatorial Guinea, Foroyaa Sports gathers.
The Gambia Finnish based international is recalled to the national team after a three year absence, and should he feature in the friendly in Malabo, the 22-year-old will be capped twice since turning professional in 2006 from local league club Gambia Ports Authority.
Savage first appeared for the national team in 2006 against Sierra Leone together with debutant Momodou Ceesay- a game Gambia set up in an experimental team. He was last featured in 2008, during the CAF Nations cup qualifiers against Liberia in Monrovia, where the Scorpions were held to a 1-1 draw.
Since then, the former GPA, Gambia U-20, KPV and Honka striker has been sidelined from the national team until this month. GFA wrote to Federación Ecuatoguineana de Fútbol of Equatorial Guinea requesting for test match with the Nzalang Nacional, which has been granted. The friendly to be held in the Guinea Equatorial capital of Malabo is slated for 29th March 2011.
GFA’s Dahaba confirmed to this paper that Demba Savage is among the invited players but refused to dwell in detail regarding the list of invited players.
