Punto Azul secures new Air Operator’s Certificate

As part of the process the airline has also received its first Equatorial Guinea registered aircraft ERJ-145 registration 3C–MAC.

Punto Azul announced the approval of its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) by the Equatorial Guinea’s regulatory authority: the Aviation Authority Guinea Equatorial (AAGE). As part of the process the airline has also completed the purchase of its first Equatorial Guinea registered aircraft ERJ-145 registration 3C–MAC.

The airline’s Managing Director, Mr. Paul Richards said, “We are very pleased by these approvals and re-certification. As a newly re-certified local based operator under the new AAGE regulations, Punto Azul is poised to offer the regional marketplace a new customer-oriented service, with a focus safety, flexible service and high reliability. We are grateful our stakeholders, the AAGE and our staff for the concerted efforts towards achieving this. With this AOC in place we are now in a position to start working towards The IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) program”.

Under the AAGE regulation all airlines operating in Equatorial Guinea have to comply with the laid down technical requirements and administrative procedures related to air operations particularly those requirements for commercial air transport. The extensive process for applying and obtaining regulatory approval involved a gap analysis between the current and new legislation. In order to comply with the new regulations and transition to an AAGE AOC, Punto Azul was required to move from leased to owned aircraft and perform a thorough review of all its operational policies and procedures.

Since launching its operations last year, the airline has been operating a full wet lease operation supported by National Aviation Corporation (NAC) of South Africa. By issuing the new AOC to Punto Azul and registering its aircraft under Equatorial Guinea registration 3C–MAC, the authorities have certified that the airline is fit, willing and able to further its business within the commercial aviation sector in the country.

Punto Azul provides a vital link to the domestic destinations Malabo – Bata and regional destinations of Douala, Yaoundé and Accra with plans to launch flights to the Republic of Congo, Gabon, and Nigeria among other key Central and West African destinations. Currently, the airline utilizes its spare capacity by running charter operations apart from the scheduled flights.
