H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo attended the national and international media in the country on May 3, World Press Freedom Day, during a relaxed press conference in which he answered all types of questions.
The Head of State answered all questions from various public and private, national and international media, and spoke about numerous topics.
H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo acknowledged that he follows all types of national and international media, from the women’s magazine Ewaiso to international television broadcasts: “Yesterday I spent two hours watching the debate between the candidates for the French presidency, Sarkozy and Hollande”.
The President also said he would love to have a newspaper in the country, but this requires a private initiative to put it into motion: “The Government supports the media through grants and support, but it takes private initiatives and the ongoing work of journalists.”
Among the most interesting topics on which H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo was asked, was precisely that of the next elections in France. “The Government of Equatorial Guinea cannot define its position on a particular candidate, but we hope that the winner of the election will respect the sovereignty and independence of Equatorial Guinea and the African continent,” said the Head of State.
