On August 25 the Chairman of the African Union presided over the work of the first Donor Awareness Conference to help in the support of countries in the Horn of Africa. The conference is dedicated to the countries affected by the humanitarian crisis caused by famine, drought and persistent armed conflicts in the area.
At the United Nations headquarters, located in Addis Ababa, capital of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, in addition to the Heads of States of Djibouti, Ismael Omar; Somalia, Sharif Sheik Amed, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Ato Meles Zenawi, the Conference was also attended by the representatives of International, Regional and Subregional monetary institutions from different continents, and representatives of some of the Heads of African States.
Taking into account that for 50 years the Horn of Africa has been a victim of famine and a progressive drought -factors that cause the humanitarian crisis currently registered in this area of the this continent- the African Union, led in this exercise by Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has seen fit to adopt a mechanism to remedy this situation.
Precisely during the development of this one-day forum, the delegates representing the different African states contributed a total amount of $356,706,000 in cash and 28,880,000 in other aids.
The forum concluded with a press conference held by the top leaders of the African Union with the different media that covered this Conference.
