Contribution is part of country’s growing humanitarian efforts.

MALABO, Equatorial Guinea, March 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Equatorial Guinea has sent a national cargo plane filled with rice, milk, water, medicine, clothing and medical equipment to Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, on Sunday, March 11. The shipment of humanitarian aid totaled 400 tons (MT) and was delivered to the Congolese capital in several trips.

The shipment was made in response to the series of explosions that occurred at a weapons depot in Brazzaville, which killed more than 200 people and injured 200 more. The explosions caused a number of buildings to collapse, trapping hundreds of people beneath the debris.

“The humanitarian aid we send to Congo is a show of solidarity that responds to the humanitarian nature that has always characterized the President of the Republic, H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasago, who…has again shown solidarity when learning of the death and injury of several persons, and the significant damage in Congo, last Sunday, following a series of explosions in one of its ammunition depots,” said Prime Minister Ignacio Milam Tang at a regional delegation of Foreign Affairs at Bata.

This is the third humanitarian aid contribution by Equatorial Guinea in the last year. The country made a cash donation for tsunami relief in Japan last March and for famine relief in Somalia last August. It previously contributed to earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti in 2010 and Sichuan, China, in 2008.
