E.Guinea’s Obiang says plotters got fair trial

LIBREVILLE — Equatorial Guinea’s President said the trial of four men sentenced to death for an attack on the presidential palace was “open” and “fair”, in a statement released Friday. 

But Obiang, in the statement released by his government based on a speech when he opened parliament Wednesday, did not confirm the rapid execution of the four men on August 21, reported by Amnesty International. 

“The laws governing Equatorial Guinea were respected and implemented, as well as the procedures of a legal, open and fair trial, with all guarantees of a defence team and recourse that might have been necessary,” Obiang said.
