On Thursday, November 8, the Chinese Embassy in Malabo donated school supplies and food to children in the Orphanage-School Nuestra Señora de la Almudena of Malabo. The Counselor of the Presidency of the Ministry of Education and Science, Anselmo Ondo Esono, representing the Minister, also attended the ceremony.
The school’s director, Sister Mari Cruz Sibacha, thanked the aid for the children, especially at this time when the center is in a vulnerable situation, after recently having suffered a fire.
Wang Shixiong, in his brief speech on behalf of his wife and the Embassy officials recalled that for a long time, the Chinese delegation has been performing charity work in Equatorial Guinea, as a gesture of friendship and solidarity with the people of Equatorial Guinea.
The Ambassador reaffirmed that “the Chinese Government values the ties of friendship with Equatorial Guinea and is ready to expand and strengthen them.” He also said his country values the importance of education, especially inchildhood.
Meanwhile, Anselmo Ondo Esono, on behalf of the Minister of Education and Science, Maria del Carmen Ekoro, described the initiative of the Embassy as an example of good relations between China and Equatorial Guinea. He also took the opportunity to thank them for previous and similar donations.
The school-orphanage of Malabo currently houses 72 children, both orphans and sick parents or without possibility to care for them. The event ended with a visit to the center and a group photo.
