Tropical basins summit – The presidents of the Central African Republic (CAR), Sao Tome and Principe and Equatorial Guinea arrived in Brazzaville on Thursday to participate in the first summit of heads of state and government of the three tropical basins in the world slated for Friday in the Congolese capital. President of (CAR), François Bozizé; Sao Tome and Principe Fradique de Menezes; and Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo are expected to be joined on Friday by President Joseph Kabila of DR Congo and Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon.
Chad, Cameroon and Nigeria are represented at ministerial level, according to a source close to State Protocol.
France is represented by the Secretary of State for transports.
The summit on the Amazon, Congo and Bornéo-Mékong river basins will bring together nearly 500 delegates under the theme ‘Forests for the peoples’.
It is aimed at promoting the establishment of an information and experience-sharing platform on pertinent issues related to the conservation and sustainable management of tropical forests.
