Acting Zimbabwe president meets Equa. Guinea special envoy

posted by: January 9th, 2015

Zimbabwe’s acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday met a special envoy of Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo in Harare to discuss bilateral relations between Harare and Malabo. Equatorial Guinea External Security Minister Juan Antonio Bibang Nchuchuma handed to the acting Zimbabwean leader a special message from Mbasogo to President Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe is on vacation in an unnamed Far East country.

Nchuchuma said the meeting with Mnangagwa discussed ways of strengthening economic and political ties between Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea.

Relations between Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea have grown since 2004 when Harare intercepted a group British and South African mercenaries that was on its way to stage a coup in Malabo.

Zimbabwean security forces arrested British mercenary Simon Mann and 69 others at the Harare International Airport as they waited to collect weapons for their mission to overthrow Mbasogo’s government.
