WBC cruiserweight world champion Krzysztof Włodarczyk (47-2, 33 KOs) of Poland will defend his title against France’s Jean-Marc Mormeck (36-5, 22 KOs) on February 9 in a very exotic place – an open soccer stadium in Equatorial Guinea. “It will be a special day for Guinea – The country’s president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, will be honorary chairman of the event and the day of the Wlodarczyk-Mormeck fight will be declared free of work for every citizen in this country,” said Andrzej Wasilewski, Wlodarczyk promoter.
The clash between Włodarczyk and Mormeck, a former WBC and WBA cruiserweight champ, will happen in either Equatorial Guinea’s capitol Moloco, or in the African nation’s biggest city Bata. In his last fight Włodarczyk unanimously defeated WBC #1 contender, Puerto Rico Francisco Palacios, and Mormeck, fighting in heavyweight division, lost by fourth round KO to WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO champ Wladimir Klitschko.
