The Presidentof the Republic, along with his wife, Constancia Mangue de Obiang, is already in the Continental region to oversee the final preparations for the solemn inauguration of the new Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, patron saint of Equatorial Guinea.
The religious ceremony, which will be held on December 7 in the capital of the province of Wele-Nzas, will be participatory and multitudinous, since it will be attended not only by the leading representatives of the high church hierarchy of Equatorial Guinea and civilian and military authorities, but will also include the presence of the representative of the Holy See in the area of Africa which includes Cameroon, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, along with envoys from H.H. Pope Benedict XVI and other delegates from the Association of Episcopal Conferences of the Central Africa Region (ACERAC).
The Head of State has expressed his concern over the success of this major event, which could also involve important statesmen of the African continent and numerous visitors from other countries worldwide. Therefore, H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo is making regular visits to this work that is almost completed, which can accommodate over a thousand parishioners. Its opening also coincides with the eve of the celebration of the festival of the patron saint of Equatorial Guinea, the Immaculate Conception.
