The President and First Lady attend the celebration of International Women’s DayThis Sunday, March 8, International Women’s Day, the President of the Republic, H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and the First Lady, Constancia Mangue, attended the celebrations for this event, which were also attended by various Government members.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. this Sunday began the Mass at the Cathedral of Malabo, officiated by the priest Tarcisio, attended by women’s groups in town.
After the ceremony, the women are gathered in front of the People’s Palace to greet the President and First Lady, who came to congratulate them and give them some guidance.
The first to speak was the Minister of Social Affairs and Gender Equality, Mari Carmen Ecoro, who thanked Constancia Mangue for the opportunities given to women, and offered her a gift as a sign of recognition.
The First Lady, after receiving this gift, expressed her thanks and congratulations to the women who created the textile design based on the image of a pineapple.
Then the Head of State gave a speech in which he congratulated all women in Equatorial Guinea, recalled their progress and encouraged the participation of women in all spheres of society. He also said that if there were inequalities, these were of colonial heritage and are already overcome.
His speech ended by encouraging the entire female population to continue fighting for their progress and that of Equatorial Guinea.
