New bridge over the river Wele in Equatorial Guinea

On August 2 the inauguration of one of the most striking engineering constructions of the continent, the bridge that joins the city of Mbini to the council of the town of Bolondo, which has now the largest of Central Africa.


The inauguration ceremony was one of the principal acts of the festivities that were carried out to celebrate the 33rd Anniversary of the Freedom Coup and this bridge, which is 1,057 meters in length and more than 80 meters in height in its main tower, is the largest of Central Africa.

The construction was realized by the company China Road and completely financed by the Government of Equatorial Guinea. It has braced bridge structures and a central T-beam in the form of an inverted “H”; two lanes in each direction, with each lane being 4.5 meters wide and two sidewalks of 1.25 meters; the designed traffic speed is 60 km/hour; the subgrade width is 13 m; the maximum transversal slope of the bridge is 2% and wind speed of 14 m/sec.

In the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructures, Juan Nko Mbula, mentioned the execution of this construction as one of the objectives proposed by the President of the Republic in view of achieving the Horizon 2020 plan.

In turn, H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo affirmed that this infrastructure was a dream that had been made reality and a commitment of his political program that has already been fulfilled, with which he hoped that the city of Mbini and the entire southern areas would become a top-level tourist enclave.
