Fort Myers – The Ladybug Project, a local organization founded in August 2010, has launched its first successful supply drive in order to collect donations for delivery to schools in the Central-West African country of Equatorial Guinea.
Working locally with Mr. Solak of Cypress Lake High School as well as schools throughout the state, The Ladybug Project was able to collect several hundred pounds of supplies and has been busy repackaging them for a mid-July shipping date.
While it may seem counter intuitive to send used supplies, the concept is rather ingenious. Half-used school supplies from Lee County school children who would ordinarily throw most educational supplies away before going off on summer vacation, fill a niche in the underfunded African education system.
The Ladybug Project will be collecting supplies from the Lee County community in the next two weeks, with the goal of collecting 500 pounds of materials. Individuals interested in donating can email Kim at firstname.lastname@example.org. Supplies will be picked up by Ladybug Project volunteers.
