National Soccer Team Harambee Stars lost their first leg match of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau going down 1-0 in Bissau Saturday night.
Guinea Bissau who are ranked 188th in the latest FIFA World Rankings scored the lone goal in the 75th minute, thanks to their play maker Cicero Semedo.
Kenya, who fielded Inter Milan’s midfielder MacDonald Mariga and AJ Auxerre striker Dennis Oliech launched a massive onslaught in search of an equalizer but their efforts bore no fruit as they slumped to a humiliating defeat at the hands of the minnows in group J that also has Uganda and Angola.
Uganda opened their campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Angola in Kampala.
The next round fixtures will be next month with Kenya taking on Uganda while Angola will face Guinea Bissau.
Uganda are seeking a first appearance at the biennial African football showcase since finishing 1978 runners-up behind Ghana and deservedly led 1-0 at half-time after dominating the opening half.
The 2012 Nations Cup will be staged in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea-the first to officially be co-hosted-where they will be joined by the 11 group winners, the Group K runners-up and the best two second-placed teams from the other mini-leagues.
